WH Smith, the well-known books, magazine, and snack retailer, announced a remarkable increase in revenue, primarily driven by its performance in the U.K. The company reported a total revenue growth of 8% for the 20-week period ending on January 20, compared to the same period last year. On a like-for-like basis, revenue also saw a notable rise of 5%.
Among its divisions, Travel UK, WH Smith’s largest division, experienced the most significant revenue growth, with a remarkable 15% increase. Even on a like-for-like basis, the division saw a solid rise of 14%. Conversely, high-street revenue declined by 4%, aligning with the board’s expectations.
WH Smith did not disclose the exact figure for revenue regarding this period. However, in the previous financial year, it had reported a revenue of £859 million ($1.09 billion) for the six months ending on February 28.
Moreover, the company expressed its strong progress in North America and emphasized its commitment to open more than 50 stores in the region throughout fiscal year 2024. WH Smith remains positive about the future and confidently states that it expects another year of significant growth in 2024, despite the prevailing economic uncertainties.
