General Motors (GM) and Google Cloud have announced a partnership to bring conversational artificial intelligence (AI) to GM vehicles. The collaboration also focuses on exploring potential use cases for generative AI.

Since its launch in 2022, GM’s OnStar Interactive Virtual Assistant has relied on Google Cloud’s conversational AI technology. This advancement enables the assistant to provide members with responses to basic inquiries and assistance with routing.

According to Mike Abbott, GM’s executive vice president of software and services, “Generative AI has the potential to revolutionize the buying, ownership, and interaction experience inside the vehicle and beyond.”

GM and Google Cloud have been working closely together since 2019 to integrate various Google technologies, such as Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play, into GM’s vehicles.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian commended GM, stating, “General Motors is at the forefront of deploying AI in practical and effective ways. We’re looking forward to a deepened relationship.”

The partnership between GM and Google Cloud holds significant promise for the future of AI integration in the automotive industry.
